Getting icloud mail onto my Android phone

I have to send medical results to my local hospital from a special app on my Android phone. When I try to add my apple mail user and pwd to the basic Android mail client it tells me the pwd is wrong. Well, it isn't! And I have set for IMAP although it ask for that to be enabled which it must be for the gmail account the mail app uses.

Any advice appreciated.

You can access your iCloud email using these settings:

However, as you are using a non-Apple app to access your email or other  facilities, you are now required to use an 'app-specific' password in place of your normal iCloud password. In order to do this you need to set up two-factor authentication for your Apple ID, and for this you need to have either a Mac running el Capitan or above, or an iOS device running iOS9 or above.

If you are unable to set up two-factor authentication you should set up 2-step verification and use that to create an app-specific password (see link below) . Then go to https://appleid.apple.com , select 'Password and Security'; click 'Generate an App-Specific Password' and follow the instructions. Once you have the password, copy it and paste it into the password field in the application instead of your usual iCloud password. You should also keep a note of it (though you can generate a new one if required).

You will need to nominate a 'trusted device': any phone capable of receiving SMS messages. There will be a 2-day wait before you can complete the process.

(A particular caveat (about 2-step only) - you will be issued with a 'Recovery Key' in case you lose your 'trusted device'. Make sure to write this down and keep it in a safe place; if you lose both it and your trusted device you will be permanently locked out of your ID. You'd be surprised at the number of people who've posted here that they've got themselves into just that position.)

With 2FA when you sign into anything requiring your Apple ID on a new device a code will be sent to all your registered devices which you will need to enter. You can tell it to trust this device in future to avoid keeping on having to get the code. However if you delete the all cookies on Firefox you will probably be asked to enter the code again the next time you sign into anything with your Apple ID. This is an inconvenience but you won't be able to use Android for your iCloud email without setting up 2FA to get an app-specific password.

One point before I do 2F verify, On my Mac I always use FFox for on-line banking etc., and when it closes I delete all cookies and history. Does this mean I will have to do 2F verify when I subsequently sign in on my MacBook? I also have an iPad Pro so don't know if that is a factor here and I never use that for security stuff. Thanks.

Well, after all that I am NOT fully informed. I had to go through several entry of codes and logins then it all hung so i had to start again! And what's this keychain? Never heard of it! I At one stage the page with the entry box was hidden under the email window (What?). Assume all is working now as I have finally logged into this site, but no idea really! It's all the stress I want for a relaxing Sunday evening! Now hopefully I can get email going from my Android device.
