Installing Boot Camp and Windows on the 2nd Internal Drive?

I have an older Mac mini Server (mid 2011) model that came with 2 mechanical hard drives. I'm changing out the two mechanical hard drives for 2 - 2tb Samsung SSDs.

I have 3 questions:

Option (1) After installing apple's o/s on the primary drive, I'd like to know if there's an option during the bootcamp installation that would allow me to install boot camp on the second drive? And afterwards, install windows on the secondary drive as well?

Option (2) If not possible to do (1) above, does that mean I can only install bootcamp and windows on the primary drive? or

Option (3) could I install bootcamp on the primary drive and install windows on the secondary drive?

Are all 3 options possible?

Thank you.

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Are you suggesting that when I start up the boot camp installation software that it will show the second Drive as a viable place to install bootcamp?

Only if the drive has not been partitioned from it's default layout. This is the current layout on the 2010 server.

 diskutil list
/dev/disk0

I assume the highlighted word is primary, not secondary. The configuration you want to achieve is

Drive 1 - macOS + Windows

Drive 2 - Windows.

  • Disconnect Drive 2 SATA cable from the disk end. Partition and install Windows on Drive 1 via BC Assistant.
  • Disconnect Drive 1 SATA cable from the disk end. Dedicate Drive 2 disk to Windows.

Option (2) If not possible to do (1) above, does that mean I can only install bootcamp and windows on the primary drive?

No. See the previous steps.

Option (3) could I install bootcamp on the primary drive and install windows on the secondary drive?

Yes. See the previous steps.

Is there a need for two installations of the same version of Windows on the 2011 Mac? If you want to install different versions of Windows, then it makes more sense. W10 is not natively supported on a 2011 Mac via Bootcamp.

You should test and validate your chosen configuration and be prepared to wipe both drives, if necessary.

Be aware that any configuration you choose, requires appropriate backups. Windows repair can be problematic, given your 2-disk configuration. On a MacPro (except the Cylinder), this is a standard supported model.
