Final Cut Pro x v10.4.6 has 'incompatible update' with MacOS High Sierra. Why & what is best for FCPX?

Hi Guys,

I'm finding my FCPX is staggering and lacking speed.

I tried to update FCPX but shows 'incompatible update'.

We have macOS High Sierra v10.13.6

Secondly, can anyone recommend what the best software platform is for FCPX ?

Your mac is perfectly capable of running Catalina. Things to take care of first:

-the battery needs to be replaced; you probably are already aware of that. Do it sooner rather than later, in no small part because this mac may reach “obsolete” state given it’s almost seven years old, and that will mean official repair shops may no longer carry the necessary parts.

-your external drive is FULL. This hurts performance badly (though perhaps not ad badly as a full system drive)

-32-bit applications will no longer work in Catalina. The report says you have some; check if there are updated versions for the ones you need, or alternative programs.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), Processor 2,7 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB.

Free Space is 145GB of 500GB Macintosh HD Flash Storage

Media is stored on a G-RAID 115 GB of 12TB drive (granted - through a USB but previously been fine)

I will have to figure out the 'Run Etrecheck' part - not a computer pro unfortunately. Thanks so far - truly appreciate this as we do a lot of video work. Cat Impi

Luis, I have quite correct - I have 13 programs running 32 bit.

I'm not sure how important they are in the greater scheme of things but they are:

Google Talk Plug In

Google Voice & Audio uninstaller

iDVD

iDVD getting started

Ink Server

iPhoto Library upgrader

Quicklook 32

Quicktime player

Quick time player 7

relaunch

Striata Reader

Universal uninstaller

WD Quick View

I'm wondering which of these would be crucial to the system if any?
