Apple Pay declined yet physical card approved

My last several transactions with Apple Pay have been declined, yet I am able to pay using the same payment card immediately following the declined Apple Pay transaction with no issues. This seems to show there is no issue with the payment card itself. What must I do to restore Apple Pay functionality with this card?
