Apple tv airplay 2 setup failed (71163)

Without warning this evening, the Airplay 2 on my AppleTV 4K stopped working. It's been setup and working fine for months. However, I was tipped off by the Home app on my iPhone saying there were no hubs available, then suddenly this notification popped up:

I went to my Apple TV and looked at the settings. There was a notification to "Finish setting up Airplay 2" which had already been done months ago. Why it was suddenly lost is a mystery. So, I tried setting it up again and got:

I searched the forums and there were a few suggestions, like "Delete the Home app from your iPhone and reinstall it". I did that... no luck.

The next one was "Sign out of your Apple ID on the Apple TV, restart it, and set it up again". I did that and got:

There doesn't seem to be any other suggestions for what will fix this... It's extremely frustrating given that it was working fine until today. There were no updates or new apps installed. Anyone have any ideas?

Synchronization is the Issue here.

This seems to be a bug in the software settings — a bug causing connections to not operate as intended.

So, start by providing Apple Feedback of this bug. Do So Here: Feedback - Apple TV - Apple

Then... As for Troubleshooting it, Try...

  • being connected to the same network. Go into Settings, looking for an IP Address and verifying that the SSID is identical on bother devices.

  • uninstalling Security Software on your iPhone and Mac. Firewall settings might be getting in the way, here.

  • scanning with Malwarebytes for iOS — found in the iTunes Store for free.

  • unplugging the Apple TV for 30 seconds, then trying this once more.

  • restarting your modem/router. Log into it, and make sure both devices are seen.

  • a different Apple TV. If new, this may be a faulty device. So, return it to the seller, requesting an exchange.

  • a different Wi-Fi Network. Perhaps the router is down for streaming, and it is time for a new router.

  • a new login session of iCloud and Apple ID on both devices.

  • contacting the Network Administrator if not you a private network.

  • contacting your ISP - perhaps Utility Work was performed down the street. Ask your neighbors if they’ve had the same issues.

  • as a last resort... modifying your Apple Credentials and perform new login sessions.

Those are probably all really good suggestions. However, I didn't get a chance to try any of them because this morning, just as mysteriously as the issue appeared, it seemed to have righted itself. I tried setting up Airplay 2 again and it worked immediately. I did submit feedback to Apple and hopefully they'll get it fully fixed in a future release.
