My USB C Hub is getting hot very quickly. Is this normal?

I just got a new Macbook Pro two weeks ago. It's nearly my ideal laptop, but I did make a few compromises, including only having two USB C (Thunderbolt 3) ports. To make up for that, I got a USB C hub from Arker. I am only using the HDMI connection to my external display. I have one of the USB 3.0 outlets used to charge my iPhone but I am afraid to plug it in given how much power the hub is drawing from the laptop. I know some heat is normal, but the hub gets extremely hot, very quickly.

Has anyone else had this issue?

One USB C port is for charging my laptop and the other is used for the hub. If not using the hub, I use a USB C to HDMI connector from my Macbook to the monitor and there are no issues. The only thing is I need to unplug one if I want to plug in my phone or iPad. I'd live with that if need be, but I'd rather use a hub to get around it.
