Can anyone who already own a 2019 Mac Pro (rack version) please measure it!
I am not talking about the outer dimensions of the front plate (which is listed on Apple's website) but the dimensions (height and width) of the case itself.
Apple has been giving me the run-around on the phone today with no one being able to answer such a simple question. (Not a very "Pro" experience, Apple!)

"Standard 19-inch rack" is a well know measurement, that is why the info is not as accessible as you might like.

Peter -- thanks for your response "I ended up writing Tim Cooke about it, and that worked. To top that I've also received very own Mac Pro 2019. The widest point on the Mac Pro itself - excluding the frontplate are: 17.09 inches or 43.4 cm. But be aware of small mounting points for the rails that stick out ever so slightly. I think 44cm is safe. The locking mechanism may also give you grief. But I am loving the machine. No doubt about it!"

The quoted size is 482mm so this is why I was concerned. I have 460mm on the inside faces of my existing cabinet (see below) -- and so it should fit just fine then without my having to rebuild the unit. I am purchasing 2 pairs of heavy duty sliding rails that I will bolt through the wood and fit heavy vented shelf on each -- so I can fit both the MacPro rack and a 2U T-3 rack server on 2 levels AND still retain my MF printer on its shelf. I may toy with the Apple rack rails but I doubt I can make as secure a support using these as I will get with the bolted solution I have used before.
Shame my original post was deleted. But it served its purpose AND thank you very much for responding sensibly to my question. I will rout out and sticking points like the locking mechanism if necessary.

so the Mac Pro would be a 5U tall device. Some racks are 23.62 in deep, so the MacPro would fit in such a rack with a little room for rear airflow and/or cabling.
Thanks, Grant - but you are unfortunately not bringing anything new to the table. I linked to the apple article myself which unfortunately does not have the measurements needed.
I work in audio so I have been around 19" racks my entire work-life, and since the frontplate is 18.98 inches - yes - it will indeed fit into a 19" rack. A rack that will fit the Mac Pro needs to be at least 24" deep in order to accommodate space for Apples rails that will come with any Mac Pro Rack ver. Our rack is unfortunately NOT that deep, and we will have to put the Mac Pro on a shelf like this link, thats mounted in the rack, with the Mac Pro then sticking out about a couple of inches at the back. In order to set this up, I need to know if the Mac Pro's "body" (NOT FRONT PLATE!) will fit the shelf, which is only 17.15 inches wide.
If you don't have a Mac Pro rack version - you will NOT be able to answer this question, since the number do not exist online, NOR in Apple internal documents - which I find very odd.
My shelf was intended for 19" racks and fits just fine into our 19" rack, but I am not worried about - nor am I asking about the shelf, but the Mac Pro Rack version and how wide it is? And with Apple being Apple, I am worried that the Mac Pro Rack was ONLY intended to be used with the rails. Apple wont even tell me how wide it is over the phone, nor patch me through to somebody with the Mac Pro in front of them in order to take the measure ment. The only number published is the number we already know - 19" wide - which is true for the front plate but not for the rest of the computer. Otherwise it would NOT into the rack. I don't think my use-case is that odd and regardless it should be possible to get a technical drawing of some sort that will show me the measurements. After all, this is possible on a 50$ shelf that the Mac Pro will sit on!?

A new and deeper rack is not an option since the rack built into our Argosy desk.

If you are spending US$6000 or more for a computer, you should be able to buy ten desks for that money. If it does not fit, replace the desk such as with a lowboy rack that is actually a standard depth.
If you buy direct from Apple, you have 14-day free return/exchange for the tower unit, but may have to refund and re-purchase because they take a week to build them for you.

Still, an Apple supporter advised me to go here to get the info. Weird that Apple rely on users to do support!

No, exactly because we are spending so much money on a new computer we don't have any left for even one desk. Who would need 10 anyway. Besides we like the one we have.

Again, not the info I was looking for. I think that is wide spread knowledge. Also in Denmark, ALL purchases done over the internet has by law a 14-day FULL return-ability.
Grant, do you own a Mac Pro Rack?
Would it possible for someone to measure the thickness of the front plate and the distance the handles stick out in front of the unit? Crazy that there are not a full set of drawings on this equipment. Mines arriving in a few days and hoping to have the rack ready....
The front plate is 1/4 inch, or 6.35 mm. The handles are 1.5 inches, or 38.1mm.
Good luck. I am having trouble with getting this thing into my studio racks. Apple said, " the tool-less slide rails support the most common rack sizes and depths."
Unless you're a musician, right? Sheesh. They bragged about having industry professionals help design this thing. Too bad they didn't get the ones who actually install and configure the darn things.

If your shelf was intended to fit in standard 19-in racks, the Mac Pro rack mount will fit and work fine.
But since it is deeper than the racks you are using, Why not just get a deeper standard rack?
If I owned a Mac Pro rack-mount, I would take out tape measure and measure it for you.
Alas, I do not have one to measure.
Is that deep enough?! Apple HAS posted the depth of the Mac Pro 2019. (Can't remember it off the top if my head.)
The unit is 600mm deep — I will be removing the back board to allow 4” of space behind and a 1u vent at the top
