My Macbook Pro 15" Retina, Mid 2015 - Graphic glitches when I overexert my computer

Hi,

So I'm getting these graphic glitches and/or freezing when I over exert my computer... usually, I experience this using Logic Pro X since I use that a lot. This started happening when I upgraded to Catalina. It's better now in 10.15.3, but I still get some glitches and freezing. The glitches kinda looks like blotches of sorts that appear across the middle of the screen, but appears and disappears intermittently. The freezing on the other hand, the screen freezes and I can't move my mouse for like 15 seconds then unfreezes after a while.

Yes, I've changed the buffer size multiple times, but this still happens.

Anyone has this problem with their MBP Retina and Logic Pro? Could anyone help me with this?

Thank you so much!

Josh

Hate to tell you this but you should have checked on this and other Logic boards before "upgrading" to Catalina which is truly a dog. Logic and Catalina don't play well together on some systems. You will have to wait for a Logic and-or Catalina fix.

There are a couple of things to try. If you have the Macbook with graphics switching.

How to Disable Graphics Card Switching on MacBook Pro

  1. Go to the  Apple menu and choose “System Preferences” and then go to “Energy” control panel.
  2. Uncheck the box next to “Automatic graphics switching”

The other thing you can do is try running Logic in non-retina mode. Open the Applications folder, right-click on the app you want to open in low resolution mode and click on  Get Info from the list. You should see a checkbox for "Open in Low Resolution"

See if that helps.

Hi Josh

Unfortunately this sounds like another Catalina issue, especially since you say it started since you updated your OS.

Seems like this happens with some computers, though I know people who have upgraded to Catalina with Logic and have no problems, though they all have iMacs, not sure if that makes any difference.

Whilst waiting for a fix I would try out Pancenter suggests.

It is a nightmare that has been reported many times on here, so are not the only one, not that that helps much!

Good luck
