Hey so I tried to factory reset but botched it and deleted the hard drive. No way of updating at all. Can’t even get into the log in screen. If I see an Apple technician, will they be able to fix it? I don’t want to spend more money on a new one. I like my Mac.
Run Hardware Test. That won’t find everything, but it will find some common errors.
Try booting from an external hard disk drive, after wiping and installing macOS on it.
Failures of hard disks this old are not particularly rare.
Replacement hard disks and SSDs are available, as well.
Run the test. See what errors it shows, if any.
External USB hard disk drives (HDD) are available from a wide variety of sources.
One mail-order vendor I’ve had dealings with (solely as a customer) is OWC, and they deal heavily with Mac.
OWC (also) offers internal storage and internal SSD storage for Mac, if this should come to a replacement.
SSD will be a substantial performance upgrade over a hard disk drive. But more expensive. And again, if.
Amazon and other vendors also offer USB hard disk storage, as do various storefronts.
HDDs with capacity of 4 to 6 TB tend to be the typical capacity range with the best available pricing.
(But with COVID-19, who knows what the prices and availability will be doing.)
Thank you. Any way where I could find an external drive? How do I use it? What do I do? How much for replacement? ( sorry for so many questions. This was my first Apple product and first time dealing with this)
