Differences Between Two Matshita UJ-898 Drives

Hi,

On my previous 15" MBP 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, the optical drive was a Matshita UJ-868 with firmware KB19 and 2048 KB of cache memory.

On my new 15" MBP 2.66 GHz i7, the optical drive is a Matshita UJ-898 with firmware KC09 and 1024 KB of cache memory.

What is the difference between the two drives (868 vs. 898) and why does the latter (and presumably the newer) have less cache memory? Thanks.

Michael

The two drives have identical read and write capabilities, according to this vendor's website:

The newer UJ-898 is less expensive, and that may be why Apple is using it in the newer machines. But only Apple could tell you, and they aren't likely to do so.
