Mac High Seirra HD Permissions big problem.

Hi peeps

I hold my hand up here for being a complete and utter idiot, Stupidity made me change my HD permissions and enclosing folders to read and write after disabling SIP and when I re enabled,I am now stuck at the apple logo with bar underneath 🤡

I tried getting into system recovery but kept going to the same screen,I don’t mind re installing, but need to get my files on the desktop sorted, and the stupidest thing apart from putting myself in this position is I didn’t have my backup drive plugged in. So I have obviously hosed my Mac here, going to try target mode in the morning to see if I can get to the files, I did manage to get into recovery later on when I tried to boot to disk so is there a way I could fix this via terminal in recovery ?

Ouch, boot into Restore mode, CMD+r keys, open terminal & try this.

Open Terminal & paste this in, spaces are important...

chown root /Volumes/

chmod 1777 /Volumes/

then right after the last / of each line, carefully type the name of that volume, & if it has spaces in it enclose the name in quote marks.

If the disk in question is your Mac OS X startup disk and your computer stops starting up at the blue screen, restart with the Command and S keys held down, and enter the following commands:

mount -uw /

chown root /

chmod 1775 /

exit

So target disk mode sees your files?

If that's the case, you should just backup your files and run the internet restore.

If your Mac is older than 10.7, and you have not installed the firmware to restore the partition, you'll want to dig around for the installation disc that came with your computer. If you can't find that, call AppleCare. July 20, 2011 is that magical date.
