Security update

I have an iMac mid 2010, run MacOS High Sierra. And my Mac is working perfect for my use. In september security updates will probably stop for High Sierra.

What are the real dangers in continuing to use this Mac afterwards - without security updates? Is it dangerous? What may happen? Can I do anything to protect me from dangers?
