Permanently turn off split screen

I have unchecked the box on the “mail” preferences that says not to enter split screen but it still does it all day every day on my fathers Mac book and it is very annoying. Is there any possible way to make it stop ?

Have you followed the steps mentioned below through and through?

How To Turn Off Split Screen In Mail

Open the Mail app on your Mac by clicking the Mail icon. You can also open Spotlight and search for it.
In the Mail app, click, Mail and then Preferences (or you can press the Command and , buttons together)
Click the General tab.
And now deselect “Prefer opening messages in split view when in full screen.” box.

If yes, then there is nothing wrong on your side.

It is a bug probably.
