Calculating % using calculator

Hi team,

Myself Sasank. I have purchased iPhone 11 recently and i have question regarding calculator. In order to calculate % the device automatically chooses 10 as a percentage value. Is there any option i can use another number apart from getting a percentile with number which I haven’t chooses?

I think you're misunderstanding how the % key works on a calculator, and possibly making it more difficult than it has to be.

5% of 55555 is 55555 * .05 = 2,777.75

Hi Sterling,

I have tried the steps deleted the app and re installed. It still behaves the same. Instead of 10 make it as 100. Per suppose if i wanted to have a percentage of 55555 this number, the moment i click on % symbol i am getting ans as 555.55 what should i do if i need 5% of that number?

I have tried couple of the calculators under the app store but all are same weird. Why the apps are deciding to take their own percentage? It needs an update of the code. I have used OnePlus and Samsung Note they are not like this.

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that when you try to use the percent function in the Calculator app on your iPhone, it seems to be automatically choosing 10% as the value to calculate by. I use the Calculator app on my iPhone frequently; I'm happy to help with this. What you're describing sounds unexpected; I'd recommend trying these steps first:

Close the Calculator app: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restart your iPhone
Try again to calculate a percentage using the calculator.

If the behavior continues, I'd suggest removing the calculator app and reinstalling it:

"Delete a built-in app from your device

1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, touch and hold the app.
2. Tap Rearrange Apps.
3. Tap in the upper-left corner to delete the app.
4. Tap Delete. Then on an iPhone X or later, tap Done. Or on an iPhone 8 or earlier, press the Home button.

If you have an Apple Watch, deleting an app from your iPhone also deletes that app from your Apple Watch.

Restore a built-in app that you deleted

1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, go to the App Store.
2. Search for the app. Make sure that you use the exact name of the app. Find the correct name of built-in apps.
3. Tap to restore the app.
4. Wait for the app to restore, then open it from your Home screen.

If you have an Apple Watch, restoring an app to your iPhone also restores that app to your Apple Watch."

Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 12, iOS 13, or iPadOS device or Apple Watch

Hi Tim,

Here why should i use the manual number if the % symbol provided in calculator? The should serve its purpose. If that is the we should not have a % symbol in calculator or make a modification or update the app to use the % and should work accurately.

55555%5=2777.5

I should get an option to enter the number after clicking the % button rather than a answer like 55555/100=555.55
