screenshot ipad keeps opening the voice assistant

3 out of 4 screenshots on my ipad (various ipads and phones that have a home button) end up opening the voice assistant, or in some cases just turning off.

I understand you have to hold the buttons for 3 seconds and then let go. Is this timing correct, it's not obvious in any guides I have seen or if I am just not getting the press simultaneous enough. Does anyone know of an easier way to get a better screenshot success rate by tweaking a setting, like the way on windows you are able to slow down mouse double-clicks? There appears to be a thing on some models where you let go one button then the other, and I'm not doing that, how do people work out which to use if they have very little time? iOS 11.X

I mean is there a proper explainer of the "easy" way?

My sincere apologies - I was working from memory whilst not using my iPad. My directions, clear in my mind, weren’t as written.

This should work for you:

1) Firmly press-and-hold the Power button.

2) Whilst holding the power button depressed, press-and-release the Home button; you’ll hear the shutter sound at take the screenshot.

3) Release the Power button.

Hope this solves the problem

No it's all good LotusPilot

My struggle was this is an iPad running older version, (on purpose actually) and it seems that 11 and probably some old versions works the opposite way around. My other devices are all newer, and work the way you describe and since I have to take loads of screenshots on new and old devices all the time, this was bugging me out a bit.

It can sometimes be tricky to get the timing just right - particularly if trying to press both buttons simultaneously.

Here is the method that I use - and teach others - to get it right every time. I suggest reading and assimilating the simple technique - and then try it when you understand the sequence. I’ll break it down into distinct steps, but when practiced, it will provide reliable results.

1) Firmly press-and-hold the Power button.

2) Whilst holding the power button depressed, press-and-hold the Home button.

3) As soon as your hear the “shutter” sound, simultaneously release both buttons.

Whilst I have described three distinct steps, the timing of the first two are almost (but not quite) simultaneous.

If you release the Power button before pressing the Home button, the iPad will go directly into its Sleep state. Pressing the Home button for a couple of seconds, if the Power button has not be firmly pressed - and held - will summon Siri.

I hope you find this explanation helpful in getting the sequence “just right”. With a little practice, you’ll get it right first time, every time.

LotusPilot, I think the technique does require trying a few times to get the consistent screenshot.

On ipad min4 running iOS 11.0 (I know it's able to upgrade), but on iOS 11, my behaviour is not as described above and elsewhere on web.

Press Home, then power, hold, release power, then release home.

Hold for at least 1 seconds, you do not hear a click, until you release the buttons.

I was releasing both buttons simultaneously, you must press home first and you must release power first. Anything else opens Siri. This seems to be the case on iOS 11 and earlier. So thank you, you forced me to experiment and discover that I must hold the home button for longer. Viola.
