When I press the return key on my mac a random app opens up

Every now and then I press the Return key on my Mac.

When I do this a random application opens.

It just started happening.

Does anyone know what I do to fix it?

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14

Reset SMC: How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support Choose the appropriate method.

Startup in Safe mode. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201262

To leave Safe Mode, click  in the menu bar and choose “Restart”
