Transferring video files from iPhone 11 to PC laptop

I have literally hundreds of videos on my iPhone 11 from a recent vacation trip and I want to transfer them to my PC for editing. The two devices connect to one another fine but it seems that only quite small files will copy over. I have not been able to determine what the critical size is, but larger files seem to copy until they are 99% copied. At that point the progress bar stops and then after a few seconds the whole process aborts with a message that "a device connected to the PC has ceased to function" or words to that effect. The next message says that "This folder is empty"

At that point the two devices have to be separated and then reconnected before the iPhone can be recognized again. After that small files will copy but, again, larger files hang up.

Will be very grateful for any help.

I am not of the process used by you to copy videos to your PC. Simplest way is to use Photo app on your Windows PC or Mac

Import to your PC

You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using Windows Photos app:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.
  2. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your PC with a USB cable.
  3. You might need to unlock your iOS device using your passcode.
  4. You might also see a prompt on the iOS device asking you to Trust This Computer. Tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Then, follow the steps in these Microsoft knowledge base articles to learn how to import photos to Windows Photos app:

When you import videos from your iOS device to your PC, some might be rotated incorrectly in Windows Photos app. You can add these videos to iTunes to play them in the correct orientation.

If you have iCloud Photos turned on, you need to download the original, full resolution versions of your photos to your iPhone before you import to your PC. Find out how.

Photos and videos that you sync from your computer to your iOS device using iTunes can't be imported back to your computer.

Thanks for your reply. I have read through the contents of the Windows 10 link, and before I actually implement anything, would you please explain what part iTunes plays in the procedure? The Windows 10 link doesn't mention how iTunes gets used at all. Is it just necessary to have it installed on the PC even if it is not operating at the time Photos is doing its importing?

Thanks.
