iPhone 7 and notes app problems

I had data in my notes app on my iPhone 7. now it is gone, totally nothing. But when I open settings, general and iPhone storage then Notes it shows app size 19.7 MB and documents & data 18.8 MB. To me that says my notes app data is on the phone somewhere I just can't find it.

Any help greatly appreciated.
