iOS 5.1.1 issues

I have recently came into an iPad 1st gen and it has iOS 5.1.1. I have followed all the prompts and did what all the question boards say to do. I put in my iCloud email and password it asks for a vertical code to be added to the password to sign in. I add the six numbers to the end of my password but all it says is my password or username is wrong. I can’t find a solution and Apple support has tried to no avail. Any ideas?

iOS 5.1.1 won't be able to connect to anything else using secure connections, won't update further, it's ~8 versions back and which means approximately zero apps will support it, and this is the first of many bits of "fun" awaiting.

If Apple couldn't get this verification code to to work, it's unlikely that anybody else around here will manage. I don't know how far back two-factor support goes, but AFAIK not this far. (Per Apple, "If you don’t have devices that can be updated to iOS 9 or later, or OS X El Capitan or later, you can set up two-step verification for your Apple ID instead.")

Recycle it.
