iPhone software update HORRIBLE

I downgraded from 4.0.1 to 3.1.3 worked.

not too hard, search internet for iphone 3g downgrade 3.1.3 or remove iphone 3g os4

basically all you need is the correct 3.1.3 firmware (might be in your recycle bin if not you can download from a few places)
hold shift when clicking restore & itll ask you which one you want to use (otherwise itll be the same 4.0.1 or whatever you used last)
let it restore & you need recboot to finish it (& libUSB too especially if your using vista)

when I did it I lost everything so make sure you back up everything 1st.

I have the same problem here. My old 3G works fine but everything is very slow. But I don't want to go the way back to 3.1.3 or 3.1.2 because some features of the 4.x Update are very good. I hope the 4.1 Update is coming in a few weeks and makes my 3G work much faster.

A reset (hold the sleep/wake & home button until the Apple logo appears while ignoring the slide to turn off) will correct 99% of problems.

I did the hardreset but it changes nothing. I also deactivated all of the spotlight search options but there weren't any effects... 😟

All I can say is, 100% dittos. OS4 is a commercial for Android based phones.
I thought 4.0 was bad until 4.01 update. Now I can't shut off 3G to save battery.
It is slower than molasses.
I will not buy a IP4 when it is time to upgrade. Android all the way next time.
More apps and the freedom of open source.

A hard reset will correct 99% of the problems FOR A FEW HOURS! I thought it had been made clear by now that hard-resetting the 3G twice a day is NOT a solution!

I wonder how posts I can say I will upgrade to an android phone before they block my account.
It just 9isses me off when a company issues an "upgrade" that seems designed to "encourage" users of earlier products to buy the new, more expensive version that need a condom do operate properly.

fishgutz, this is a support forum that rarely Apple staff reads. It's a place for us users to try and solve some issues together. This is no place to express the troll side of yourself (don't get me wrong though, I also have such a side).

That said, I don't think you'll get banned anytime soon from this forum.

I got sick of 4.01 - especially the locks when rendering pages in Safari, the unresponsive keypad, etc.

I've gone back to iOS3 and it's now just how it should be. Apple should be ashamed.

I posted a similar post to this, but it was quickly removed by Big Brother at Apple. Guess they don't like people criticising them.

Same experience w 3G & iOS4 (including 4.0.1).

Congrats, Apple. You've succeeded in doing for the iPhone world that exact same thing Micsoft did for the PC world with Vista!

Vista was never this bad, and at least it's possible to legitimately re-install XP. The difference here, is that Apple will not support anyone who doesn't like OS 4.

Ok, Miffed - I'll have to agree - Microsoft still didn't screw their customers as badly as Apple did on this one.

My 3g also now won't BT pair with the Command system in my 2009 Mercedes C350.

I officially declare iOS4 a bigger screw up than Microsoft Vista!

I downgraded to 3.1.3 its not too hard to do (cant give you links, apple consider downgrading jailbreaking they told me! but do an internet search for "iphone 3g downgrade 3.1.3" or remove iphone OS4...
dont worry it wont invalidate your 90 days warranty you get with your iphone 3G (im sure you bought it more than 90 days ago anyway)

but yeah, 3.1.3 works just like you remembered it & all the apps you updated to be 4.0 compatible still work with 3.1.3

Regarding Apple not supporting anyone who decides to downgrade back to 3.1.3 ,
As I see it, Apple wasn't supporting me on 4.0.1 anyway, so I really don't see the downside to having them ignore me now.
I have one more year to go on my AT&T contract. Once that's up, it's time to look at Android.
If Apple wants to behave like Microsoft, I'm not going to remain loyal.
