iPhone 11 Camera Quality.

Hello,

I received my iPhone 11 back in December after trading in my 7 Plus. I was really excited to use the camera on this new phone. However, I’ve noticed the quality of the pictures to honestly not be very good on both the front and back cameras.

On the front camera there seems to be excessive image graininess/blur every time I use it. It almost looks like a beauty filter was applied even though I’ve never done anything to the camera settings. On the back camera the same thing happens, and there’s also a yellow tint to the photos (especially in lower light situations). It doesn’t look remotely good and I’ve stopped using this phone to take pictures because I know they won’t come out anywhere near decent. I even played around with image settings in the settings app and it didn’t do anything. My iPhone 7 Plus was definitely taking better pictures before I got this one.

Now, I’m not sure whether this is a hardware or software issue (or both). I’m really hoping that Apple is able to fix it, but I’m kind of iffy that they will since I‘ve already done a few software updates on this phone and nothing has improved.

Lastly it seems that A LOT of other people are having these same issues as I read forums and posts on here. I’m wondering if there’s a way to reach out to Apple in a more direct way?

The photos I'm taking with both our iPhone 11 and 11 Pro Max are uniformly excellent. If you don't think your phone is taking great photos, schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show it to Apple.

I know that (that was my next step). I’m glad yours is working well. Just trying to point out that mine isn’t experiencing the same excellent quality. It appears that other people are having similar issues as well. Thanks for your post.

I can see a number of reasons why that would not be a great photo. You're way too close to the wall on the left. The photo would have been taken in Night Mode and I have no way of telling if you held the camera completely still for the number of seconds it showed on your iPhone screen for the photo to be taken. It's also not clear exactly what you wanted in focus. You could have touched the screen in the place you wanted the photo to be the most in focus. The reality is you chose a very challenging photographic opportunity and it didn't turn out as well as you hoped. But that in itself, doesn't necessarily mean the phone takes poor photos. Please don't be offended here, but while iPhone can take stunning pictures, it is dependent on the photographer behind the lens.

There are loads of Youtube tutorials on how to take the best photos with the new iPhone 11 series phones. You might want to watch some. Learn how to use Night Mode. Learn about the difference in the cameras on your phone and when to use which one in the most effective way.

Best regards.

I understand what you’re saying. I know that’s not the best picture. I’m still going to upload more. All I know is that the 7 plus that I had took better photos. They seemed much more sharp and realistic. It’s as if Apple’s software algorithms smooth out the photos way to much. The grain is really prominent too and looks like the ISO has been turned up a lot. I don’t think it’s just the person behind the lense making a mistake. If you look there’s several other forums on here where people are bringing up the same issue. I do still think there is something wrong here. The iPhone is known for being an easy camera that’s “tap to shoot”. I get that takes effort to take some phenomenal quality photos, but everyday quality photos should still be good enough and to me they aren’t.

I've participate in several of the threads on this forum on this subject. I'm not saying they are all wrong. But SO MANY of the photos posted were taken poorly by many of the posters. I'm an amateur photographer and have studied photography and routinely use a Nikon DSLR with expensive glass. That doesn't make me an expert by any means, but I do see things in the photo you posted, which said (to me) that was a very challenging photo to take correctly.

By all means, if you are concerned, take the phone to Apple and let them run diagnostics.

Sorry, but another example of a photo which came out wrong, because the dogs hind legs are way too close to the lens. It also appears there may have been some shake when you took the photo. It's VERY important in low light to hold the phone as steady as you possibly can. Did you use night mode in this photo? I don't mean to offend, but you are demonstrating that a photo class would help you greatly.

Hey I apologize for calling you a troll. I didn’t see your first reply to my last post and thought you were just trying to be dismissive of everything I said. I totally get what you mean. The shots I’ve posted weren’t taken in a super composed manner. I guess what I’m trying to say is that nonetheless, I believe there’s still something about the camera and/or software that is making pictures not come out very well. (Even with accounting for my poor staging). I see this effect even when looking in the viewfinder before I take a picture. Looking back at pictures taken from my iPhone 7 Plus confirms this for me. I appreciate your comments (even though I called you a troll earlier). :)

This was taken with the back camera in a somewhat low light situation. There were still multiple light sources. The other pictures I’m gonna upload have more light in them.

I tried to upload two pictures, but it seems to have only done the first. I’ve also reached my posting limit for a set amount of time I guess.

Dude I know they aren’t the best photos. I’m not gonna set up a shot every time I use the camera. You can see throughout each photo how grainy it is. The trolls are strong in here today.
