I had to change the battery on apple tv remote. When I went back in, apple tv won't accept my apple id, even though it is correct, and main menu of apple tv is blank. Bottom line is I need to set up my apple tv again and it won't let me because apple id says incorrect, but it is not incorrect.

This sounds like it is related to Two-Factor Authentication. You will need to generate a secure code from another device and type it after your password. Example: password123456

Two-Factor Authentication is not available in all locations. Go Here: Where is two-factor authentication for Apple ID available? - Apple Support
However, if it is available, yet it is not popping up, then unplug your Apple TV for 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. See if it now prompts you for it.
It never even gives me the option of a Two-Factor ID.
