Preventing scratches on face of Apple Watch

I just got my Apple Watch a few weeks ago, and noticed the glass face of the watch is scratched already in several places. Is there a way to prevent these scratches from happening? Did I miss something that came in the box to put over the face of the watch to prevent these scratches from happening?
