Internet stopped working on my iPad but my apps work

All of a sudden my internet stopped working on my IPad but my apps work. Netflix is working fine and others as well. I’ve shut it down and restarted it, the only thing is that I can think maybe the problem is it won’t do a software update. Could that be why it doesn’t work? I can use WiFi off my phone it connects fine. But just won’t connect on it’s own, without using my phones WiFi. Thanks!

Okay - you’re clearly paying for a [broadband?] internet connection. Your ISP-provided WiFi router will seemingly provide the internet connection to your iPad - this connection being data only.

I your wish to use voice services, you have the native FaceTime App on your iPad - or you can use third-party “voice” and “messaging” services such as Skype, WhatsApp or others. However, unless you find a service that provides an SMS gateway, you’ll not be able to send or receive SMS/MMS messages from your iPad.

I hope this clarification as to capabilities of your iPad and internet connection are helpful.

Assuming that you are attempting to connect your iPad to your home WiFi network, you should initially try restarting your home broadband router. Disconnect power, wait 30 seconds, then restart the router. When the router reboot has completed, force-restart your iPad:

The restart should resolve any connectivity issues with your home internet connection. It is not uncommon for some routers to occasionally block network connections to some websites/services.

Your iPad cannot, of itself, send or receive calls or messages over a Cellular network. To use Cellular calling and messaging features, you must have an iPhone with an active Cellular calling plan.

If both you iPad and iPhone are logged-in to iCloud with the same AppleID, then [if the iPhone’s cellular plan allows it] the iPad can be used for calls and messaging over cellular services - using the capabilities of the iPhone.

Your problem may be a DNS issue. Changing your DNS Settings may resolve you problem.

On your device, you can change your DNS settings here:

Settings > WiFi > [Your Network] - touch the “i” icon, then select Configure DNS > Manual and add/replace the existing entries with this Recursive DNS provider - which is trusted and highly reliable.
