Magic Mouse 2 not charging

I will admit a am a bit angry about this issue. My Magic Mouse 2 will no longer hold a charge. I am just struggling to understand how the MM2 is an improvement to the MM1 that took batteries. I still have an older MM1 and its going strong. The MM2 is an e-waste disaster.

Will Apple actually replace these?

What was the whole point of a rechargeable mouse that the user cannot replace the battery in if the battery can't even last 2 years (but it did last past that 1 year warranty)?
