2 iMessage accounts into one iCloud account?

Is it possible to backup two iMessage accounts into one iCloud account?

I ask because we have several devices logged into one iCloud account. My wife's iPhone storage is filling up. I realized that iMessage on her phone wasn't set to store Messages in iCloud. I tried activating it, and got the following message:

Messages in iCloud is not available because iCloud and iMessage accounts are different.

All the other apps on her phone are using iCloud. Why not iMessages?

Also, when I accept the Ok prompt after getting the above message, I get the following message:

Upgrade your account security: To enable Messages in iCloud, review and upgrade your Apple ID security.

When I select the Continue prompt, it just goes back to the first message noted above.

iPhone 7

Hello BlueEn,

I understand you need some help getting Messages to sync with iCloud on your iOS device. I'm happy to answer your questions and help you get this sorted out.

It sounds like that iPhone is signed into an Apple ID in Messages that is different than the Apple ID used in iCloud. Those two Apple ID's would need to be the same in order for Messages in iCloud to work properly. You can view the other requirements for Messages in iCloud here: Keep all your messages in iCloud. One of the other requirements is two-factor authentication. If that isn't set up for the Apple ID it might explain why you're getting a message regarding account security needing to be updated.

I recommend signing out of Messages by going to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap on the Apple ID there and select Sign Out. Sign in there with the same Apple ID that is used with iCloud after that. Make sure the Apple ID and device meet all of the requirements listed under the "Before you begin" section of the aforementioned support article, and then try turning on Messages in iCloud again.

Take care.
