clean installation

I wanted to perform a clean installation to my MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (I don't know production year) It is already running macOS Catalina )10.15.3 but I need a fresh start therefore I want to perform clean installation.

I prepare a usb drive, I download Catalina from Mac app store, and I created a bootable usb drive with it. So far I did everything right (I assume) however when I restart my computer (by holding option key) I I can not see the usb drive but only Machintosh HD (which is my main drive) what am I doing wrong? how can I make my computer to see the bootable usb drive when I reboot?

It may help to know that you don't need a bootable USB drive to do a clean install of macOS. Instead, restart and hold Command–R to boot into macOS Recovery, then use Disk Utility to erase the disk—see step 2 in How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery.

The most likely explanation is that something went wrong with the creation of the installer in the usb drive.

There are a few ways to do it. As you were told already, if done right it should appear as an option in Startup Disk in System Preferences, and also when booting with the Option key down.

Can you tell us the procedure you followed in trying to create the installer?
