IPAD Unable to use Sidecar

Why can't the Ipad 5th Generation (2017) connect to Sidecar? It seems extremely unfair since it is only a 3 year old IPAD and every update it has received says it can be used as an extended screen for my 2017 Macbook Pro.

This is far from the case as every effort I have made to do so has failed.

These are the minimum requirements for Sidecar:

Sidecar system requirements

Sidecar requires a compatible Mac using macOS Catalina and a compatible iPad using iPadOS 13:

Mac using macOS Catalina

  • MacBook Pro introduced in 2016 or later
  • MacBook introduced in 2016 or later
  • MacBook Air introduced in 2018 or later
  • iMac introduced in 2017 or later, plus iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
  • iMac Pro
  • Mac mini introduced in 2018 or later
  • Mac Pro introduced in 2019

iPad using iPadOS 13

Additional requirements

As such, if Sidecar is not available, either your iPad or Macbook do not meet the minimum specifications.

As iPad5 does not appear in the list of devices that meet the minimum technical specifications, this is likely the issue; iPad5 only has an Apple A9 processor; listed compatible iPads are all A10 or greater.
