Apple lightning SD card reader won’t connect or disconnect after few secs

As title suggests I have a problem with my Apple lightning SD card reader disconnecting or refusing to connect with my XR.

I have used them together with no issue before but now the reader only connects for a few seconds at most or not at all. I can be sure it is not the reader as I have two and neither work anymore.

I have tried cleaning everything, resetting the phone, plugging it in the reader different ways up but nothing helps.

I use it to import raw images taken on DSLR so this is mega frustrating.

Has anyone else had this problem or found a fix? I can’t see anything else about this on the forums.

lint or dirt in the phones connector can cause it, cleaning it out with a match or toothpick or the likes can resolve it

but a damaged connector in both iPhone or adaptor can also be the culprit, trying the adaptor with another iOS device could shed light as to what is damaged.
