Software update time out
Hi.
I am unable to update my software. A notice appears stating "the request timed out". An error occurred while installing the selected updates.
How do i fix the problem?

Sorry to hear you're having this issue with your iMac.
What model year iMac are you using?
Click the Apple menu > About this Mac to find out.
You don't say which update you're trying to make so I'll assume it's to macOS Catalina.
Try this:
• Go to your Applications folder and locate the "Install macOS Catalina" application. Delete it and empty the trash.
• Restart your iMac in safe mode by pressing the Shift key until you see the Apple logo and progress bar at startup.
• Login, go to the App Store and attempt the upgrade again from there. If it works, Hooray! Then you can restart normally.
If this doesn't resolve the problem then come back and let us know.

You are a LEGEND! Since SATURDAY! Even rung apple tech support.
I simply restarted my iMAC, held down the shift button a looonng time until my log in came. Logged in, went to the software update in preferences, clicked the update (prayed to the almighty) and voillaaa...the blue progress bar started moving!!!

What software are you talking about?
A slow internet download speed is a known issue—if suspect—try a different Network.
if the display went on sleep mode that could be the problem or it might be just the internet.
