I suspect a failing HD. You can restarting the Recovery Partition by holding down Command + R on startup. Open Disk Utility app and then run First Aide on the HD several times. Look through the report and look for any errors, if there are any that confirms my hunch. If there are not, that doesn't mean anything as First Aide does not always find things.

What worries me most though is you have not backed up any of your data using Time Machine or by creating a bootable clone. This means your data is will likely be lost if my guess is correct.

What I would recommend though is to take the computer to your independent local Apple Authorized Service Provider (not an Apple Store) to have the computer professionally assessed and repaired if needed. You can begin finding an Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area by clicking AppleCare Contact Info and asking them to help you locate one.

Good luck!

Thank you very much. I did not know about the 10 minutes wait to start in safe mode! It works and it got into safe mode. Then I restarted it and again it is stuck in the Apple logo. It doesn’t pass through it. Restarted again in safe mode and it was ok. Checked the log in items in the systems preference/ users & groups and there is no log in items. Open the disk utility and there is something that looks odd to me but not sure. At the left side of the screen where it list the hard drives there is the following.

Apple HDD HTS541...

Container disk1

Macintosh HD-Data

Macintosh HD-Data-Data

I think there is issues with the startup data but Where to check and fix that?

Hello, Javier7665.

Sorry to hear you're having this problem with your iMac.

If you haven't rebooted into safe mode anytime recently you should try that to see if it helps. Let the Mac OS do drive directory repair, cache clearing and other misc housekeeping. Often just booting into safe mode and logging in, then immediately rebooting normally will resolve an issue.  You should do this with all your external peripherals disconnected but the keyboard and mouse. Press the Shift key until you see the Apple logo and progress bar when you restart you Mac.

Note– starting up in Safe mode could take 10 minutes or more. Be patient.

Does the problem persist while in Safe mode?

Restart your Macintosh and re-evaluate the issue.
