Alternate characters don't show since Catalina update
Since I installed the latest update (MacOs Catalina) on my MacBook Pro, I no longer have any alternate characters appear when typing. Does anybody have a solution?

I am referring to accent characters. Usually when you press and hold a key on the keyboard — for example, a — the accent menu is displayed. This is no longer happening for any of the letters on my keyboard - no accent character menu shows when pressing and holding a key that definitely has accent characters.

Try playing with the settings for key repeat and delay in system preferences/keyboard/keyboard
