Safari locks up and I'm unable to refresh open tabs. Recently, Mail does not show highlighted message content. Both situations require a restart. However, after selecting "restart", the system hangs and forced restart, holding the power button, is necessary to get my MACBook to restart.

To leave Safe Mode, click in the menu bar and choose “Restart”
