What kind microphone is recommended for amateur musician wanting quality product for voice recordings?

I would be new to Logic Pro if I buy it. What kinds of equipment are needed for making quality voice recordings (esp. type of microphone) — for an amateur musician wanting a quality product? I've tinkered GarageBand and with MIDI and have an (old FM) Yamaha Clavinova, MacBook Pro with Catalina, and a MIDI interface and cables. I might get a Roland RD-88. I would mostly be composing and arranging all digital music from the piano keyboard, with potentially recording some vocal tracks. Thank you.

A decent SA or Rode (eg https://www.andertons.co.uk/rode-nt1a-complete-vocal-recording-system) with a decent interface say focusrite if you want to start somewhere and some decent headphones unless you know what you’re doing with acoustic treatment and monitors. For relatively small outlets you can have easily professional results. Don’t skimp on investing time in learning to use Logic properly, that will be the rate limiter for your journey.

finally you don’t need to buy any third party plugins to get pro sounding results , just go with stock logic instruments and plugins till you know what you need or have a (very) specific issue.

Ps if you have piles of cash, then ignore all of the above and follow the never ending internet “must haves. ” !

Hi mbluckyluc,

If you get a good quality microphone, maybe a Shure, you can plug it directly in the headphone socket of your Macbook pro! I just heard about this, you will need a mini jack plug adaptor to fit in the headphone socket.

I am actually ordering a mini jack plug adaptor to try today.

I would advise a good heavy duty microphone stand, K&M make excellent quality ones.

Good luck with it all.
