i followed the recommended steps to add screen recording to my home screen but the button remains 'grayed out'.

Any suggestions?

If it is greyed out on your Control Center:

Settings>Screen Time>Content & Privacy Restrictions>Content Restrictions>Screen Recording (the last option at the very bottom) must be ALLOWED.

Screen recording app could be added only to Control Center, not to home screen.....

Please better explain your needs.
