Problems sharing Mac wifi with PS4 through ethernet

Hello!

As many people are aware the wifi cards in Playstation 4 are very bad. Unfortunately I have no access to our router so I have to choose wireless. To help this I have bought a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter so I can run off the wifi my Macbook Pro (2015 Catalina) gets as it gets better speeds.

I have set it up 100% correctly. Internet sharing is on, the wifi is listed at the top on Network and it shows its connected on ethernet.

Here's where it gets weird. If I do this on my wifes Mac Air it works fine.. I get a connection. If I do this on my Macbook Pro it works as soon as I plug it in, I do a connection test on the PS4 and it works.. but within 20 seconds it will stop working. I do another test and it won't get an internet connection. I can literally unplug the ethernet or turn internet share on and off and again it will work for about 20 seconds then stop.

It's as if it suddenly decides it doesn't want to do it and says no. Like I say the Mac Air keeps working no issues. The settings are EXACTLY the same. I could use my wifes to do this but it isn't very convenient as she will need to use it and also I think my Macbook Pro gets better speeds.

Any ideas why this could be and what I can do to fix it?

To trouble shoot further you can:

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and test. Reboot and test will take a little longer as caches get rebuilt.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

Many thanks for your reply.

So I booted in safemode and it works perfectly. Continues to work without stopping. (does not work in guest mode but this is probably no surprise!)

I'm assuming this means something on my computer software wise etc is blocking it? How can I figure out what is to blame?

To get a good look at your System config. for conflicts or issues, you can download/run this trusted utility http://etrecheck.com

If you need help interpreting the report you can post it here in its entirety in the "Additional Text" box in the editing toolbar below, in your reply.

You can set its preference to "Allow full Disk Access",  with this you get a digest of issues from the last 7 days that are saved in your system.
