I love the fingerprint identification on my iPhone 6S+ and I’ve been trying to hold out for the new iPhones in October. But my phone is acting a fool....do any of you know if I get a new phone now with facial recognition if it will be a software update to install fingerprint identification or if it won’t be available at all to older models? TIA

No software update can get you a finger print scanner on an iPhone that does not have one. Its a piece of hardware that is not included in the new phones.

Nope. Outside of the iPhone 8, none of the new iPhones have featured any form of touch ID since 2017.
Hower, I'm with Lawrence here. Face ID is great. Its worked perfectly on my 11 Pro, and I love it.
There are no home button on the newer iphone to use touch id.
That’s been rumored, but Apple hasn’t said anything about it.
I love Face ID; I didn’t think I would, but I was a really fast convert.
The iPhone 8 Plus is a great phone, and a big step up from the 6S Plus. And even reasonably priced.
I might have misunderstood about the new phones. I read somewhere that they were going to have Touch ID on the new phones like the new Androids do. On those, you can touch the main screen and get the option for Touch ID instead of just facial recognition. Thanks for the input.
