Final Cut Pro problem importing from camera

I have an sd card with video clips to import into FCP. When the card is inserted in my iMac (or directly from the camera), the card can be selected when importing, but contents of the card (the clips themselves) do not show up on the import screen.

I'm running FCP 10.4.8 on Catalina 10.15.3.

I have an older iMac running 10.12.6 Sierra and FCP 10.3.4 which I do not use. The sd card works as expected in this machine.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
