There is an issue with the iPhone XR of my spouse. When she records a video on playback the sound is muffled and goes from quiet to louder randomly. This poor sound quality doesn’t happen on the phone or with the voice memo app just on when recording video with the front or back camera. I should also point out that when recording videos on Snapchat the sound quality is fine. Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be?

Thanks for going through those steps. There are built-in microphones on both the bottom of your iPhone XR and the top near the receiver. You can look at the exact locations under ‘External Buttons and Connectors’ from this article:

Are either of those getting covered for moment when you start taking a video? If not, make sure your iPhone is up to date:
Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Just to be sure, check the microphones on your iPhone:
If that doesn’t help, restart your iPhone and test again:
If you have any Bluetooth accessories connected, it may interfere. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn that off.

Did you ever find a solution to this? My phone does the same thing. Sound quality on other apps is just find it’s only when I’m recording a video on my camera app.
