cannot connect using SSL ..do you want to try setting up without using SSL? Verizon password denied problem.
To add Verizon to all my account (outlook PC, ipad, iphone), I had to use AOL's password generator. These steps do not change your standard log in for AOL/Verizon, it seems to be for a one time security issue. Note: in the past when setting up Verizon on my iphone, I just used my AOL/Verizon mail login password, but it was no longer working. Kept getting User Name and Password errors, or SSL errors. The process is as as follows:
- Log onto your AOL email account
- Access your Account by clicking on your name in upper right hand corner
- Click on Account Security
- Click on Manage Apps and Password
- Select the device you're working on
- Generate third party app Password (WRITE IT DOWN so you can reference anytime as you'll not get to view it again once you close the app - I took a screen shot), but for the case of using it this time, copy it
Open your Mail account on your iphone (iPad)
- Settings/Passwords&Accounts/ - Click on the Mail account you're trying to fix (in my case, Verizon Mail) - I had big trouble adding Verizon as I had deleted the account to try to fix the problem but was finally able to add it through trial and error, though they said I might not be able to get email, I just needed that Verizon Account to click on.
- In the Password field, copy the AOL password
- It will verify and you're all set to go
I write this as NO ONE, not Verizon, not Apple, not any Google search knew that this was required/had a solution. So frustrating! I learned it from Microsoft Tech Support as the same issue happened with my Outlook and I figured if it worked on that, maybe it would work on my iOS products. I hope that this helps others.
