trying to open .html file in safari

trying to open .html file in safari

Any help much appreciated

When i save my file in text edit as: name.html.txt it opens as a blank page in safari (using open file)!!!!!!
What am I doing wrong?????

Then when i return to the file in text edit it opens as it should in safari, like a web page.
How do I get back to the code that I wrote???????

Under 'New Document' in TextEdit's Preferences menu, choose 'Plain Text' as the format.

Under 'Open and Save' select 'Ignore rich text commands in HTML files'.

Now open the the file in question, go the 'Format' menu, and select the 'Make Plain Text' option.

OK I've removed the .txt and only have .html

when i try to open file in safai this is what I get:

there's something else that I just can't figure out...... also when I'm saving in text edit its adding a .rft which I've replaced with .html

new to this whole game so please excuse the ignorance

I'm writing the code in text edit, saving as .html, going to safari and trying to open the file ....... am i missing a step or 3 .... porbably

changed to plain text

when i save it adds .txt , which i remove and add .html and append extension
now my file is saved as .html.txt
when i remove the .txt, the page opens blank
aghhhh
is there something else i need to chang in preferences

Open Preferences in TextEdit. Under "New Document" check off "Plain Text" under Format. Under "Open and Save" make sure "Add '.txt' extension to plain text files" is unchecked.

New files will be in plain text and when you save them you can use any extension you want.

To change an existing rtf file to plain text. Press Command-A to select everything in the file and then go to the Format menu and choose "Make Plain Text". Save the file.

Having an htm(l) extension is as much for human convenience as it is for a browser. Having an html extension will allow a file to be loaded into a browser by default, but if you open a file, regardless of extension, using "Open File" in a browser, then if it is properly formated html code, the browser will render it as a web page.

The fact that you are putting .txt at the end of your file means its going to be a text file opend by text edit by default. If you want it to be a web page, take off the .txt extension

You seem to be composing/saving in rich text. Go to TextEdit prefs and set it to plain text for new documents.

Ok, so when your saving, your going to file > save as and from there making a file name WITHOUT .html and then where its saying the format choosing html
