iCloud photos

I went into apple and asked how I could reduce the amount of storage my photos took up on my iPhone. I was told to turn off iCloud photos. I did that but then over half my photos disappeared, I immediately turned it back on but my photos still haven’t come back. Is there any way I can somehow get my photos back?

That advice is wrong.

Turning off iCloud Photos will mean you want them only *on* your device, not only *off* your device.

If you had been using Photo Optimization, your phone would attempt to download all full sized photos from iCloud to your phone,. IF you don't have enough space on your phone, that process can't complete.

Did you have optimization on? How much space was/is available on your phone? Did you receive any error messages?

These are the details missing in your message. Hard to help without them.

With the limited information that you have provided, I had to guess the problems faced by you. Some of it can be understood by reading below.

Photos exists on iPhone and iCloud when you turn on iCloud Photos

  • If you Turn Off iCloud Photos, it is there on iPhone only.
  • If it is Turned On it is there on iPhone and iCloud

There is no situation when photos are only on iCloud Photos. There is something missing in your communication.

LACAllen; You are referring to Optimisation and the OP is talking about photos that have disappeared.

If the OP does not have enough storage locally, that could explain their "disappeared" comment.

This is why I asked about error messages. I am confident there would have been one.

Request you to understand an advice, before calling it wrong. I would like to know which part of my advice was wrong.

This is not a respectable way to speak to a fellow volunteer. I suggest you rethink your strategy.

I was referring to the Apple advice given to turn off iCloud photo as a way to remove photos from their phone. That advice is wrong. I was not referring to you and suggest you read more carefully.
