AirPods not pairing to Samsung tv

I recently got some AirPods to use with my smart tv however when I try and pair them I’m having no luck - the are showing on the Bluetooth list but when I click pair it doesn’t want to connect. Is there anyway to resolve this or is it just not possible (I’ve connected beats headphones previously with no problems)

ive have also managed to connect the AirPods to an LG tv - just struggling to connect to Samsung which is the main one I want to connect to.
