Legacy Java SE 6 runtime can't be installed on Catalina

Hi all,

I just set up a new mac with Catalina. I was able to transfer most of my software over but one package can't be opened. I get this error:

"To open [software] you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime."

When I try to do this, however, I get the following error:

"Java for macOS 2017-001 cant be installed on this disk. A newer version of this package is already installed."

Any recommendations regarding how to proceed would be great. Thanks!

No form of Legacy Java 6 is supported on the 64-bit only macOS Catalina. Provided that you performed the recommended Time Machine backup of your previous installation of macOS, before the Catalina upgrade, then you can readily downgrade to that fomer macOS environment without data loss. This would be achieved by booting into Recovery (⌘+R), and selecting Restore from Time Machine Backup.
