Hello jkaufman3434,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! I understand you're encountering an issue with your MacBook Air where the password is not working with your Apple ID.

Begin by restarting your MacBook Air by going to the Apple menu in the top left of the screen and select Restart.

Once restarted, try signing in with your Apple ID. If the issue is persisting, check to see that your MacBook Air is up-to-date with the operating system. To do so, follow these steps:  How to update the software on your Mac.

If the issue persists, continue with these steps:

- Restart in safe mode and test again: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

- If it is still occurring in safe mode you’ll need to create a new user and test it out again. This article will show you how: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac.

If you're still unable to sign in as a new user please answer the following:

1 - Which of these services you're trying to sign into:

 - iCloud

 - iTunes or Music app

 - FaceTime

 - Messages

2 - Are you receiving an error message when you try to sign in?

3 - Have you made any recent changes to your MacBook Air?

4 - Have you recently changed your Apple ID password?

All the best!
