Download folder on dock

Hi, so I accidentally deleted the downloads folder on my dock then found a way to bring it back but I'm not sure if it is the right way to do it. So I went to the 'users' selected my name and it brought me to the section of 'downloads' where all my files normally go. And the I dragged 'downloads' to my dock and changed it to 'fan' and 'by date added' but I noticed that every time I download something, it doesn't show up on my downloads on dock. I have to either go to my finder or on safari (top right corner) in order to open it.

How do I keep my 'downloads' folder up to date and access my files or downloads on my folder on the dock? Cause right now, I'm stuck with the ones I've already downloaded before moving the folder to my dock.

Try resetting your Dock:

Open Terminal in your Utilities folder and at the prompt copy and paste this command:

defaults delete com.apple.dock; killall Dock

Press Return

Then try dragging the Downloads folder to the Dock.

Does it go into the folder you dragged to the Dock? I.e. go to your home ("name") folder and see if it is in Downloads.

If it is not, check Safari Preferences, General tab, and see what folder is set for downloads.

Hello, macionis.

If you haven't rebooted into safe mode anytime recently you should try that to see if it helps. Let the Mac OS do drive directory repair, cache clearing and other misc housekeeping. Often just booting into safe mode and logging in, then immediately rebooting normally will resolve an issue. You should do this with all your external peripherals disconnected but the keyboard and mouse. Press the Shift key until you see the Apple logo and progress bar when you restart you Mac.

Note– starting up in Safe mode could take 10 minutes or more. Be patient.

Does the problem persist while in Safe mode?

Restart your Macintosh and re-evaluate the issue.

Okay so I tried that but every time I download a file it would still go to to the safari “downloads” like on the toolbar at the top right corner beside share. Nothing goes to the “download folder” on my dock

Sorry, I know I’m asking a lot of questions and I really appreciate all your help and your patience!
