This question was asked in the past but not sure that it was answered. You can in fact record audio in 48khz by going to Applications - Utilities - audio/midi setup - choose your microphone and set it at 48khz.

Maybe you can answer this one. What would happen if you played an mp3 recorded at 48khz on Garageband that is set at 44.1?
Would it play back fast? Just curious because I've come across posts asking why their tracks are playing back fast and I suspect it's more than bumping the BPM setting.
