Mapping a walk on Apple Watch

How do I set up my Apple Watch and/or Activity on my iPhone to create a map of my walks in Workout mode. My wife’s watch, series 3 does it automatically by mine series 5 does not. Suggestions?

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

The next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup:

To see the map, you must turn on route tracking. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, turn location services on then tap Apple Watch Workout, then tap While Using the App.

Then tap on maps then tap While using the app.

Then tap on System Services and turn on motion calibration and distance.

Another place to check is on the watch in settings/privacy/Location Services and make sure this is turned on and scroll down to apple watch workout and select while using the app.
