You might consider to share a folder with images on iCloud Drive (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210910). This is finally possible since yesterday's update. The folder could be sorted by the filenames.
And would have the advantage, that the shared items can be shared in the full quality and will not be reduced in pixel size like in shared albums.
Many users are expecting that shared albums should be behaving like standard albums.
Ever since Apple renamed the Shared Photo Streams to "Shared Albums", the users are expecting rightfully something different. We want to use the shared albums like a web gallery and create a sorted album. But only the name has changed, not the functionality. There is no good tool to create web galleries in Photos. The shared albums are meant to be used as a communication channel, where you occasionally drop a new photo, someone comments on them, likes them, then replies by adding another new photo, and you reply by adding more new photo, more like chat about photos. This can be a lot of fun, actually. If we could sort shared albums, the conversations in the comments would get out of context, and it would be difficult to find the new photos that someone dropped into the album. Now the new photos will always appear at the end of the shared album, for easy access.
