Mac OS 10.15.4: Random restarts due to panic(cpu 1 caller

My MacBook is restarting randomly from last few days with following error messages:

  1. "BAD MAGIC! (flag set in iBoot panic header)" (freezes, need to restart manually, 5-6 times a day)
  2. panic(cpu 1 caller 0xfffffff00df677b4): x86 CPU CATERR detected (automatic restart)
  3. panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffff025f05f64): "void AppleEmbeddedPCIeUpLinkMgmt: (automatic restart)

In all three cases, only safari was open with background services (Creative Cloud and OneDrive only). Nothing installed recently.

Can someone please explain the reason for these panics, logs are as follows:

I want to confirm that after the upgrade to 10.15.6 i haven't had a single kernel panic, it has been a month an a half crash free, so i believe it got solved, even if nothing hints at the possibility in the Release Notes of 10.15.6.

My crashes were "void AppleEmbeddedPCIeUpLinkMgmt" and "x86 CPU CATERR detected".

I'm having the same issue with my brand new (refurbished) iMac Pro that I just got yesterday.

It came with 10.14.5 so I upgraded directly to 10.15.4 and migrated from my 2017 iMac also running 10.15.4.

Here is my log:

It must have happened when I manually put it to sleep pressing the power botton once. I noticed the fan was still running but the screen turned black. Upon returning I couldn't get the machine to wake up again.

At the moment there is no fix other than looking at recently installed apps and removing them. Well I haven’t heeded that advice yet but my often crashes have not happened in a few days, so I’m somewhat reluctant to break it if it’s working.

Like you and a whole lot of us, @apple can you get off your bum and do something about this annoying crash.

I am having the exact same problem right now too. Is there any suggestions on what to do to fix it? I am also missing my Touch Bar.

I've had an elevated Apple support case number on this since Mar 29, working with the same support contact in many phone and email communications. The fix above was one of the first suggested and didn't work. Nothing has worked so far after sending multiple log files to Apple support. Has not been isolated so far to any peripherals (including 2 external monitors), applications, boot up files. Updated IOS 10.15.4 released Apr 8(?) also didn't help.

I have been in contact with Apple. Believe it or not waiting for hours on phone when their advisers just write notes and say we are escalating your concerns and panic logs to hardware engineers.

I have got no proper response from Apple. I provided all the logs to one agent then he transferred me to some senior advisor. She now can’t see any logs and want me to wait when next panic will happen and then get the logs.

All they can throw at customers is to reinstall OS. That’s all.

I’ve already tried all those things with no positive results, nor should I have to.

I did try to limit my external display usage and noticed it happens less frequently but that could just be a coincidence.

Apple needs to get it together and make this right. I didn’t pay $3000+ For a mac to have to use tricks to get it to work properly. Unacceptable.

I have all "Energy Saver" settings disabled except for the first one, which is enabled ("Prevent computer from sleeping automatically..." is checked). In my case, I'm on a Mac Mini so I always have a display attached and I'm actually using an eGPU via one of Apple's recommended configurations. Note also that the kernel panic always occurs during active usage of the machine.

Specs as follows:

eGPU Setup Info -- I'm using the recommended setup per: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544

Enclosure: 'Razer Core X'

GPU: 'AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT' (MSI brand 'RADEON RX 5700 XT MECH OC BV' from Best Buy)

Display: Single Display (LG 27UD58-B 27-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor w/ FreeSync)

Display Resolution: Running at native 3840 x 2160
